HALOX Organic Corrosion Inhibitors - Description

HALOX® Organic Corrosion Inhibitors are effective against flash rusting and in-can corrosion prevention. These products are ideally suited for high gloss, thin film, and clear coat applications. They also provide superior synergy when used in combination with inorganic corrosion inhibitors in traditional coatings.

More information about HALOX Organic Corrosion Inhibitors

HALOX® 350 is a 97-100% active organic corrosion inhibitor providing effective control of in-can corrosion, temporary corrosion protection and flash rust. This product is designed as an efficient and effective replacement for nitrite-based inhibitors, which are often reported as toxic. It is a low-odor, nitrite-free, di-carboxylic acid containing zero VOC, is very effective at low loading levels and improves coating adhesion. Recommended dosage: 0.2-0.8% HALOX® 350 (of 30% solution) based on total formulation solids.

HALOX® 515 is a patented liquid organic corrosion inhibitor for high gloss (direct-to-metal) coating systems. It is a dual functioning liquid flash rust and corrosion inhibitor for water-based coatings. HALOX® 515 is nitrite-free, phosphate-free, heavy metal free and does not require hazardous labeling. It is very effective for weld seam corrosion prevention. It can be post-added to most water-based paints. HALOX® 515 provides synergy with anti-corrosive pigments (HALOX® Zinc Phosphate, HALOX® 430, etc.) to maximize corrosion resistance. Recommended loading levels range from 1-3% based on total formula weight.

HALOX® 515 LFG is the low freeze point grade version of HALOX® 515 (freezing point: -13°C to -15°C) and can be used in the exact same applications. It is a weld seam flash rust inhibitor. It is nitrite-free, phosphate-free, heavy metal free and does not require hazardous labeling. This product can be post-added and used in cold climate conditions. HALOX® 515 LFG is also effective for thin film applications (<2 mils). Recommended loading levels range from 1-3% based on total formula weight.

HALOX® 520 contains dual functionality as a corrosion inhibitor and an adhesion promoter. It may be used in water-based formulations such as: 2 pack epoxy systems, 1 and 2 pack polyurethanes, acrylics (especially epoxy/amine functionalized), and hybrid systems. HALOX® 520 can also be used as a metal pretreatment additive. Recommended concentrations range from 0.5-1.5% based on total formulation solids. Although liquid, the product is best incorporated if added to a pigment grind, especially in the polyol portion of 2 pack polyurethane systems, and amine/amide part of 2 pack epoxy systems.

HALOX® 570 is an organic corrosion inhibitor designed for use in water based industrial and decorative coatings to provide flash rust and long term corrosion protection on metal surfaces. It is especially effective along weld seams and in some cases, can also be used in solvent-based coatings and in UV cured systems. HALOX® 570 may be used in formulations based on water-based acrylic latexes and co-polymers, styrene/acrylic latexes, acrylated epoxy esters, 2 pack epoxy systems, alkyds, alkyd/acrylic blends, and 1 or 2 pack polyurethanes. HALOX® 570 may be used in both water-based primers and direct-to-metal topcoats. In direct-to-metal coatings, HALOX® 570 has minimal effect on gloss reduction. It is an environmentally-friendly, nitrite-free, phosphate-free, heavy metal-free, stand-alone corrosion inhibitor which can provide synergy with inorganic anti-corrosives. Recommended concentrations range from 1-4% HALOX® 570 (30% solution) based on total formula solids.

HALOX® 630 is a liquid organic corrosion inhibitor for solvent based protective coatings on metal surfaces. HALOX® 630 may be used in solventborne clear or pigmented coatings. It is designed to replace heavy metal-based corrosion inhibitors in many applications and reduces osmotic blistering caused by water uptake in coatings. HALOX® 630 may be used in systems such as: 2 pack epoxy systems, high solids epoxy esters and alkyds, acrylic resins, and 2 pack polyurethane primers. In bake systems, the temperature should not exceed 150°C. With reactive isocyanates, slight yellowing may be observed. Superior corrosion resistance has been observed over poorly prepared surfaces, such as adherent rust or oil contamination. Recommended concentrations range from 1-3% HALOX® 630 (as supplied) based on total formula weight.

HALOX® 650 is an organic corrosion inhibitor primarily designed for coatings and primers on metal surfaces. It is specifically designed for use in solvent-borne or powder coating applications to provide long-term corrosion protection and improved adhesion. HALOX® 650 is a stand-alone inhibitor that provides synergy when combined with inorganic anti-corrosive pigments e.g. HALOX® 430 to maximize corrosion resistance. It will replace heavy metals e.g. Cr(VI) based corrosion inhibitors in many cases. HALOX® 650 may be used in applications such as: coil coatings resins such as thermoplastic acrylics or epoxies, powder coatings systems such as polyester/TGIC, acid catalyzed thermosetting systems such as melamine or urea formaldehyde, and wash (etch) primers based on PVB. Recommended loading levels range from 1-3% based on total formulation solids.
